Celebrating the Success of Two Exceptional Bayview Hill Elementary School Students

We are thrilled to announce that two of our very own students, Aviad Omozusi and Mahaara Bhimani, have been recognized by the York Region District School Board's Celebrating Student Success. These outstanding students were among just 16 recipients representing over 200 schools in YRDSB. What makes this even more remarkable is that only 6 of the 16 recipients were from elementary schools.

Celebrating Student Success is dedicated to recognizing exemplary YRDSB students who demonstrate excellence through character, leadership, and service to their school and community. The event also honours the contributions of teachers, staff, parents, and families in supporting student success, aligning with the Ministry of Education's "Education Week" initiative.

Avi is a champion of equity and inclusivity. He is very involved with the school community, using his augmentative assistive communication (AAC) device to complete a presentation about animals that served in the war at a school assembly and express his gratitude. He also participated as a drummer during the lion dance at our Lunar New Year Assembly. He is gifted with computers and coding and was involved with the robotics club in preparation for the D.A.R.E. Robotics Expo.

Mahaara has been a positive difference-maker since day one. She brings a compassionate approach to her work as a kindergarten helper and does her best to make all of her peers feel welcome and heard. She helps less experienced players in her music class, is a leader of BHES Press, and delivered a powerful speech at the Simon Wiesenthal Center Speaker’s Idol Grand Finale in 2022. Mahaara demonstrates an inclusive and empathetic leadership style in all of her interactions at school.
